Bullet journaling has seem to absolutely blow up in the past couple of months and never one to miss out on a stationary and organisation trend, I had to jump in. Today I am going to be sharing with you on the absolute essentials you need to start bullet journaling. This is going to be the first in a bullet journal series, so I think it’s only right I share with you the essentials you need for bullet journalling.
I heard about bullet journaling at the end of 2015 and I spent months and months watching Youtube flipthroughs, gaining ideas and knowledge of what is essential for a bullet journal and the fun spreads you could do. A bullet journal is essentially a journal of all of your other journals in one. You include whatever you want in it, including: to dos, dailys, trackers, monthly spread and many more. So let’s jump in to what you need…
This is definitely the number one essential. You need a notebook to put your bullet journal in. The most popular ones are Leuchtturm 1917 and Moleskin. However, you can start in any notebook you want, since it will be your first. The most preferable size is A5, with grid/ dotted style pages, this allows you more freedom to draw and write what you want.

- Staedtler Triplus Fine Liners (amazon– currently 50% off.)
- Staedtler 0.3mm ball point pens! (amazon)
The pens that I use are these Staedtler Ball Point Rainbow Pens. I love these pens as they glide smoothly across the paper and are great, cheap starter pens, if you are new to calligraphy, drawing etc. or you don’t know if you are going to stick to BuJo. If you are a bit more advanced with your handwriting and drawing or just want to invest in really good pens, I would recommend these Staedtler Triplus Fine Liners. The BuJo world and it’s aunt seem to have these pens and people love them!
You also want a pen to write with: I love these Staedtler 0.3mm ball point pens!
So really, all you need to start a bullet jounral is a notebook and some pens. However, if you want your BuJo to be a bit more artsy and you want to be more creative in it, defintely check out some of these supplies:

3) CREATIVE SUPPLIES
Washie Tape is so good to cover up any mistakes you make (and you will make many!) but also make your journal really pretty, with borders and such. You can get washie tape anywhere but my favourite places are amazon and ebay.
Journal stickers are another visual way to spice up your bullet journal. Stickers just make everything pretty but they can also help you track things, such as payday, birthdays or even momentus occasions. Watercolours are not something I use but I definitely would love to use them in the future when I get a bit better at drawing. Loads of people I have seen use them along with stencils to create quote pages and their monthlies and dailies.
Well, those are my bullet journal essentials. The two most important are obviously the notebook and the pens. The creative supplies are totally optional and only apply if you want your bullet journal to be a bit more artsy but you can totally build up to that.
I hope you enoyed this post. Next up in this series will be: ‘How to Start a Bullet Journal.’
