A couple of months a go, I wrote a (very popular) post on the ‘5 Reasons Why I Read your Blog.’ To follow up on this I thought I should share with you reasons ‘why no one is reading your blog.’ Before I get into my reasons I want to state that these are just my opinion and other readers may like it but for me these next few thing are a big no no and contribute to why no one reads your blog.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when a blog takes more than five seconds to load. You’re probably thinking that: ‘that is such a short time’, but it really isn’t. I am a very impatient person so if your site takes really long to load I probably won’t even read your blog, let alone return to it. For example, Google Analytics has told me that my site takes approximately 0.00-0.01 seconds to load, so I know people can get to my content straight away and not have to worry about waiting for loading time if they see another post they like.
2) ADS HERE, ADS THERE, ADS EVERYWHERE
There’s nothing more annoying than reading a really good blogpost and accidentally hitting an ad that redirects you to another page and seriously disrupts your flow. On top of that if you have a bunch of ads on your page, it just really puts me off as, in my opinion, it looks way to busy and commercial.
3) ‘SIGN UP TO MY MAILING LIST’
Erm, this is the first time I’ve visited your site, chances are I am not going to join your mailing list before I read a post. Also sometimes, especially on mobile sites, its hard to close this pop up so I end up not reading that post.
4) ‘JUST ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL’
Bebo introduced me to that quote but anyway, if you have no personality in your posts, I’ll read your blog and never return. It sounds a bit harsh but I love blogs with personality and humour. Straight forward, bland posts feel like something you will find on Wikipedia. Don’t be another brick in the wall, jut out!
5) ‘OH THAT EYESHADOW IS PINK? IT LOOKS BLUE’
Images are key to getting exposure and readers onto your blog. Images are the first thing people see and I know that if you have pretty images, I’ll read your post. However, if the images are very dark, grainy and blurry it does not entice anyone into reading your blog, So bare in mind that people aren’t attracted to the text first, they are attracted to the pictures so try shooting in natural daylight and use photo editing sites/ software.
6) ‘POST SCHEDULE: ONCE A MONTH’
If I really like a blog, I want to read new weekly content. If you haven’t posted in a month, I automatically think you wont post for another month so I don’t want to get too invested in your content. Think about your blog as a five star tv show, you cant just cut the series in half and never finish it, can you?
So all of these reasons can contribute to the fact the no one is reading your blog or you are just seeing a heave decline in traffic. I really love reading posts like this as it helps me to improve my blog and become a better blogger. I do have other blogger help tips such as:
