When it comes to packing I am a dork. I make so many checklists and lists because I always get scared that I may forget something if I don’t write it all down. Therefore this sometimes means I overpack and that was no exception for this holiday. I went away for a week and I packed for about three.
Avoid what I did. Avoid lugging around a 20kg suitcase all over Victoria stations stairs to Gatwick by following these simple tips and using my FREE printable checklist.
The first thing we need is a suitcase. Pick out a suitcase size that suits the length of your trip. My suitcase was so big that I felt the need to fill it and therefore packed unnecessarily.
If you are going for a week or less than, check out this medium sized suitcase, which rolls on the ground beside you: (amazon – debenhams)
If you are vacationing for longer than a week and have more things or plan to bring back more things, take a bigger suitcase: (amazon – house of fraser (on sale £54!))
1) PACK IN OUTFITS
I always pack in outfits but this year I did not. Instead I packed in singles and made my suitcase super heavy. Do you want to know what’s really annoying? I didn’t wear half of the things I packed.
Ideally you want 7 day time outfits, 7 night time outfits and about 3 beach outfits. Make sure some of these outfits can be swapped over, so some key items are versatile.
2) DO YOU REALLY NEED IT?
Really think about it. I packed nine skirts. Nine. I was away for seven days and I packed nine skirts. Out of those skirts I wore one. Don’t make my mistake, only pack what you need. This will not only save space, it will also save weight.
Take a max of three pairs and make sure they are comfortable. When you’re on holiday you don’t want to not be able to walk, you want to be able to move freely. Save weight and space and pack shoes that you will wear and feel comfortable in.
4) YOU’RE TRAVELLING- BUY TRAVEL SIZE.
The clue is in the name. Buy travel sized shampoos, conditioners, shower gel and body lotion. Again, this will save you space and allow you to fit all of the items in a travel bag. If you’re going for a longer period of time, then maybe you should consider buying the bigger ones but if not, travel size, all the way.
Or, buy some shampoo and conditioner etc. when you’re out there.
5) ROLL NOT FOLD
To maximise space in your suitcase, roll up your clothes, don’t fold them. This somehow gives you much more space to pack much more things, especially if you have a smaller suitcase.
Having trouble thinking about what to pack? Print out my free checklist or even oggle it just to get some inspo. I haven’t included the carry on items in this printable, as that will be a separate post.
I have organaised the items into all different categories such as: clothing, shoes, electrical items, etc.

That’s how I usually pack for my holidays and what I normally take with me when I travel. You don’t have to follow all of these tips because I am so not a packing expert but these tips really do help. I also hope you enjoy the packing checklist!
